About BCP

Boston Community Pediatrics (BCP) is the first nonprofit pediatric private practice in Massachusetts. BCP is bringing income and racial equity to pediatric healthcare by providing all families, but particularly those with low-income, with comprehensive, high-quality, culturally competent care that puts the patient at the forefront of its delivery model, regardless of their insurance coverage or ability to pay. BCP has three main goals: 1) Ensure Boston’s children have access to the highest quality pediatric health care; 2) Increase access to, and reduce the stigma of, mental health care; and 3) Address social determinants of health through comprehensive, relationship-driven care and resource navigation. Since opening its doors in November of 2020 with 150 patients and 12 staff members, BCP’s physical footprint has doubled; the organization now has a team of 22 serving over 1,700 patients annually, and expects to continue growing. BCP provides patients with access to comprehensive, relationship-driven pediatric primary care. There is a BCP medical provider on call 24 hours/day, seven days a week. BCP’s appointment times are longer than standard; a typical visit at BCP includes at least 45-60 minutes with an experienced, well-trained physician. Patients and families may also meet with a mental health clinician, a care navigator, or a family partner, who then spends another 60 minutes of individualized time with them. BCP providers are culturally diverse and culturally sensitive, and many staff identify as bilingual and bicultural. By leaning into the relational aspect of medicine, BCP providers are able to meet patient families where they are and create customized treatment plans. Recognizing that they are not experts in the lives of patients or their families, BCP providers partner with patient families, working together to shift health outcomes for Black and Latinx children and youth with low-income.
