Traffic & Closures
The Longhorn Run 2026 will take place on Saturday, April 18 starting at 8:00AM at The University of Texas at Austin along the intersection 21st Street and Speedway Ave. The race will end by 10:00AM at the same location, followed by a post-race celebration at South Mall and the UT Tower. The race features two courses, a 10K (8:00AM start) and 5K (8:15AM start). You can view this year's course route here.
Not all roads on the course will experience a full closure.
The following City of Austin streets will experience a full closure:
The closures will begin roughly at 5:30AM and each street will re-open as soon as the last runner passes the area.
- Robert Dedman Dr.
- DeLoss Dodds Way
- Speedway Ave.
- E. 27th St.
- Wichita St.
- Whitis Ave. (27th St. to 24th St.)
- University Ave. (27th St. to Dean Keeton)
No Parking Zones:
The following segments of city streets will be "no parking" zones from about 7:30AM until the last runner passes the area.
- University Avenue (between 21st Street and MLK Blvd.)
- University Avenue (between E. 30th Street and E. 31st Street)
The following streets on the UT campus will experience full closures:
- E. 21st St.
- Speedway Ave.
- San Jacinto Blvd.
- E. 24th St.
We anticipate the majority of the streets will be reopened by 10:00AM. We will be working closely with Austin Police Department and The University of Texas Police Department to open streets as soon as possible as well as provide alternative entry points for residences and businesses located on the course.
