Lead and Sweep Cyclist Opportunities
Lead Cyclists and Sweepers play an integral role in protecting and supporting elite runners along the course.
6 Lead Cyclists and 2 Sweeper Cyclists are recruited for each of the following events:
Servus Edmonton Marathon
Health Care Solutions Half Marathon
Complete Shipping Solutions Army 10K
Role Responsibilities & Requirements
As a "Cycleteer," you will work alongside a team of cyclists to guide elite athletes and ensure a clear, safe path for optimal race performance.
Pacing & Fitness: Riders must be proficient cyclists capable of maintaining a pace of 22 to 23 km/h for up to 2 hours.
Course Safety: You will help clear the route ahead of lead runners by using a whistle and strategic bike positioning. Note: The course is completely closed to vehicle traffic.
Mandatory Training: Attendance at weekly training rides is required every Saturday morning leading up to race day on Sunday, August 16th.
Race Day attendance: Cyclist must report to the Race Director, Tom Keogh at the fixed gantry 45 mins before the start for briefing and 30 mins in place to lead runners, which is ~30m ahead of the start line.
