My Story…
I’m so looking forward to my 4th year participating and 3rd time swimming the 1500m event. This year, I’m excited to join my Bowen Bay training buddies Anna and Mary on Team 3 Swimming Sistahs!
My youngest brother is living with a rare terminal cancer. I’m very familiar with the fear, anxiety and stress of time in treatment; of the many hours spent in transit, or in preparation, or simply waiting for a doctor to call. Because he lives so far away it’s hard to feel helpful, so I’m compelled to participate here, where I can, supporting others.
I’ve lead teams, organized and participated in so many cancer research fundraising events over the years. SwimBowen is different. It feels different. There’s a real connection to community and to the actual people who directly benefit from the fundraising. There’s almEven before moving here in 2021, I knew I wanted to be involved with SwimBowen. That goal pushed me to overcome my fear of ocean swimming. It’s now something I absolutely love and enjoy.
I know how impactful a Cancer Care Fund gift is for a person in treatment, so I’m thrilled to swim for my community again this July. Thank you for your support!
