THE FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT BREWERY BASH - AUGUST. 17, 2019
It’s the middle of summer and the days are long and carefree for so many young people, but one local teen is spending his school break battling a brain tumor.
Lake Norman Charter High School student Brady McKay was diagnosed with a glioblastoma the size of a lemon behind his left eye during May of his junior year. Tuesday marked 8 weeks since his diagnosis, and Wednesday marks an important day for the entire community that he has become a part of.
Today, July 17, marks the first ever Glioblastoma Awareness Day in the United States. The Senate passed a measure this spring to mark the day in honor of GBM patients, families and caregivers, and to recognize the hard work of researchers and medical providers.
McKay was diagnosed on May 16, just two days before the fifth annual Fight The Good Fight 7K and 1.7 mile fun run. Brady’s parents, Bob and Jodi, are both on staff at Lake Norman Charter, and they were quickly connected with fellow staff member and founder of Fight The Good Fight Linda Arrieta.
Fight The Good Fight provides financial and moral support to local brain tumor patients and their caregivers. FTGF has already been able to provide one grant to the McKay family, with another planned following a benefit for the McKays in August.
The Fight The Good Fight Brewery Bash will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Eleven Lakes Brewery at 10228 Bailey Road in Cornelius. The event will feature live music by Mike Bustin, the Big City Bites food truck, and a raffle and silent auction to raise funds. More information on the event can be found on Fight The Good Fight’s Facebook event page.
FTGF is still seeking donations of goods and services for the raffle and silent auction. If you would like to help, please email Lindsay.krone@gmail.com.
Brady’s radiation and chemotherapy treatments will wrap up just 10 days before the start of his senior year. His family has been collecting hats to help keep him comfortable as he weathers the side effects of his treatments. FTGF invites you to bring hats, beanies or even bandanas that you would like to donate to Brady at the event on Aug. 17.

"Jace was 5 years old diagnosed last October he is the son of Cornelius Police Captain Jennifer Thompson and his dad is a State Trooper. He had brain cancer he fought very hard until the end and was one of the sweetest kids you'll ever meet. We have a memorial set up in front of the Cornelius Police, 21440 Catawba Ave, that we would like people to add to. We have a Candle Light Vigil set up for Monday, October 8, 2018, at 7:30 pm in front of the Cornelius Police Station which their pastor will lead us in prayer."
~ Jamie Jordan, a friend of the family
On behalf of Fight the Good Fight we ask you to join us on Monday, October 8th at 7:30 pm in Memory of Warrior Jace.
