Sinister 7 Ultra Race Update
Hi |*FIRST_NAME*|,
Sinister 7 Ultra is just around two and a half months away! I hope you are feeling ready, because we have a great race planned. Put down the donut and get outside for a run - it is time to cram. There will be at least three more updates before the race, so watch for them in your inbox. Each will be full of tips to help you get ready.
TA4 Location Change
If you have been around Sinister 7 since the beginning, you know that we have been working for years to find a better location for TA4.
Why: Way more parking and space for setup.
Change: TA4 is now located 1.2km east of its original location. It does not change the course route. Leg 4 is now 1.2km longer (but almost completely flat). Leg 5 is obviously 1.2km shorter to compensate.
This new location offers easy access right off of Hwy 3.
Note: This is PRIVATE LAND; we are so thankful to the owner, who does not want to be named, and we must leave the site spotless. We have permission to use this land for July 13, 2024 only. NO OVERNIGHT CAMPING. Support Crews and Relay Runners driving to the site need to watch out for runners as this section of road is shared. There will be plenty of signs to warn you.
Kids Race Time Change
In case you missed our Facebook announcement, the Kids Race is now starting later than before.
We have taken a lot of feedback from parents, volunteers, and the race crew, and many said the kids race just started too early last year. We are sure that TA2/TA3 is the best location for this race, and it is definitely a busy area, so managing incoming and outgoing racer traffic is important.
The new start time for the Sinister 7 Kids Race will be 1:00pm on Saturday, July 13. For any parents who signed up their kids and do not think this will work, please contact us and we will get you a refund.
There are still spots left in the Kids Race, so get on it before they are gone!
Fenix Promo Code
Our lighting sponsor, Fenix, wants to light up your run. Get your lights at https://everythingfenix.com/
Use the code: sinister2024 for 15% off.
The Sinister Crew all use Fenix, so we are able to vouch for these headlamps. My personally favourite thing about RT65 is the dial-in tensioning, which lets you tighten the strap just the right amount. Check them out.
RD Intel
If you haven't checked out my blog, RD Intel, it is not a running blog. It is all about race planning and some of the considerations we use while creating a race. I do, occasionally, touch on topics like training and race preparation.
In this edition, I am talking about how we pick foods for our aid stations. We don't just grab what we can find; we actually use eight separate criteria or values to help us pick the right things. Take a look: https://www.sinistersports.ca/rd_intel.
Welcome back to Tailwind
Some of you may have had a hard time finding Tailwind recently as they sought out a new Canadian distributor. Good news! Tailwind is back on tap, and they will be at all of our races this summer as our official electrolyte supplier.
You can get Tailwind through Fast Trax Run and Ski Shop in Edmonton.
Our Merrell Anniversary
ICYMI - we just want to say a big Happy Anniversary to Merrell Canada. It has been so much fun working with them over the last year, and we look forward to a repeat in 2024. We made up a fun little video with the Sinister Crew and a bunch of Merrell athletes to celebrate – check it out here or click the video image. :D
This year, we will have more demo shoes for everyone to try on, and we will have retail sponsors, like Fast Trax Run and Ski Shop, on site so you can actually take a pair home. Stop into the expo on Friday afternoon before the race to check them out.
See you soon! Train hard and have fun out there.
Kindest regards,
Brian Gallant
