Latino Medical Student Association
(LMSA)
As the LSUHSC SOM New Orleans chapter of the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), we strive to unite and empower medical students through service, mentorship, and education to advocate for the health of the Latino community. Anyone is welcome to join, no Spanish skills or Hispanic heritage required!
Some of our service projects include partnerships with Tulane SOM’s LMSA chapter to serve our community through free health screenings (blood pressure and glucose checks) and education on conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, and breast cancer awareness at local health fairs. The most recent of these were at Que Pasa Fest for Hispanic Heritage Month and at the Mexico Binational Health Fair in partnership with the Mexican consulate. We also offer fair attendees information on local low-cost, bilingual community resources such as Luke’s House, a free bilingual clinic. We work closely with our Luke’s House partners to provide donations such as school supplies for children in need as well.
Additionally, as part of the LMSA Southwest region, which includes medical schools in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, we help out with Christmas at the Border through donations and fundraising. These efforts go towards buying gifts for and spreading holiday cheer to vulnerable children who have been separated from their families this Christmas.
Join us in making a meaningful impact by registering or donating today!
