The New Orleans Women and Children Shelter Outreach Program
The NOWCS Outreach Program addresses the health care and health education needs of women and children experiencing homelessness in the New Orleans area. Through educational programs and health clinics, we aim to encourage New Orleans women and their children take charge of their health while they work toward self-sufficiency.
Some of the meaning services provided, include:
- Face-painting at the NOWCS Annual Picnic to bring joy and a sense of community for families.
- Holiday events like the LSUHSC Christmas Party at NOWCS, providing a festive celebration during the holiday season.
- Bi-weekly educational sessions for residents that cover crucial health topics, such as mental health, breast cancer awareness, and the importance of flu vaccinations.
- Fun, bi-weekly children’s activities at the shelter, like pumpkin decorating and Mardi Gras mask making, fostering creativity and fun for children in difficult circumstances.
Every step you take in the Tiger Run 5K helps us continue our work of improving the health and lives of New Orleans families in need, supporting their journey to wellness and self-reliance.
