A great participant experience is critical to the success of your event, whether you host a 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, or another endurance event. However, great experiences shouldn’t stop at participants! Spectators are often overlooked, but can be just as important to consider, and just as impactful to your event’s reputation.

The good news is, there are a few easy ways to enhance your spectator experience, simply with the use of online tools. Let’s dive into a few ways:

1. Live Predictive Tracking on Race Roster

No app download, no onerous setup, no roadblocks. By enabling Live Predictive Tracking, you can drive spectators straight to the place they care about most. A seamless, login-free entry to your Live Predictive Tracking page is already a great start to any spectator’s experience with your event.

Spectators can choose who they want to track with the flip of a toggle, and our Live Predictive Tracking technology will display their predicted position on the course and predicted finish time using the data your timer already provides when posting results to Race Roster, or the estimated times your participants provided during registration.

2. Live footage of the finish line

Allow spectators to watch their loved ones take that final step across the finish line in real-time. This is an incredibly special moment and you can help participant’s share it, right as it happens, with the people who mean the most to them.

Start2Finish did this for Little Rock Marathon, leveraging Live Predictive Tracking and live footage!

3. Spread the word

A great experience is only impactful if people actually experience it! Using Race Roster tools, you can ensure spectators know when and where to go.

  • Race Roster email campaign tool: Simply send an email to anyone currently registered for your event, providing them with a sharable link they can share with friends and family.
  • Participant dashboard messages: In the space participants go for information related to their registration, you can add a custom message! This can be used as a reminder to encourage their friends and family to tune in during the race.
  • Print QR code signage: Place QR codes at your event expo and around the course, encouraging spectators to keep track of their friends and family online as they participate!
  • Put the link on your website: Ensure your Live Predictive Tracking page is easy to find!

Race Roster

At our core, we are event organizers and athletes serving event organizers and athletes. Race Roster was founded by a group of friends with combined interests in running, technology, and event management. After organizing their own 10K in 2010, it was very apparent that the running industry was in dire need of better technology. Since May of 2012, Race Roster has partnered with over 4,000 organizers to grow, manage and execute on race day!
